For someone who is looking at taking on their first project car, this Futura looks like it would be a pretty decent entry point vehicle. Our policy lasts 30 days. The car appears to be a solid proposition, and the scope of mechanical work that has been completed leaves the buyer with the task of finishing the body and interior. However, given the fact that the majority of Falcons of this era were sold as budget cars with either a 3-speed manual or 2-speed automatic transmission, the fact that it is a Futura that was specified with a 4-speed transmission makes it a bit unusual. The standard floor console is present, and it looks to be in quite decent condition. ![]() The seats will all need new covers, the door trims look like they will need new upholstery, and the carpet looks like it may actually be revived with a good clean. The Futura was a more luxurious version of the Falcon and featured front bucket seats. The owner does say that the interior needs some loving, but it does appear to be complete, minus the radio in the dash. The owner has all of the exterior trim for the car and also has a new windshield and new seals for both the windshield and rear window. The owner states that the body is good, with only a couple of places needing minor repair. I think that there are some glimpses around the car of the original paint, so that makes me believe that the car was originally finished in Rangoon Red. The Ford looks quite straight and doesn’t appear to be far from being ready for a fresh coat of paint. Barn Finder billw spotted this one for us, so thank you for that billw. The owner has set an asking price of $4,800. The Ford is located in Glassboro, New Jersey, and is offered for sale with a clean title. You will find the Futura listed for sale here on Craigslist. The fluoride ion from dissolved fluoride salts inhibits dental cavities, and so finds use in toothpaste and water fluoridation. Pharmaceuticals such as atorvastatin and fluoxetine contain C−F bonds. Molecules containing a carbon–fluorine bond often have very high chemical and thermal stability their major uses are as refrigerants, electrical insulation and cookware, and PTFE (Teflon). The rest of the fluorite is converted into corrosive hydrogen fluoride en route to various organic fluorides, or into cryolite, which plays a key role in aluminium refining. Owing to the expense of refining pure fluorine, most commercial applications use fluorine compounds, with about half of mined fluorite used in steelmaking. Industrial production of fluorine gas for uranium enrichment, its largest application, began during the Manhattan Project in World War II. Only in 1886 did French chemist Henri Moissan isolate elemental fluorine using low-temperature electrolysis, a process still employed for modern production. Proposed as an element in 1810, fluorine proved difficult and dangerous to separate from its compounds, and several early experimenters died or sustained injuries from their attempts. ![]() Fluorite, the primary mineral source of fluorine which gave the element its name, was first described in 1529 as it was added to metal ores to lower their melting points for smelting, the Latin verb fluo meaning 'flow' gave the mineral its name. Ground operations in Denver were hampered by an unusually high number of absences among ramp employees. That led to the snowball effect that crippled operations.īut it was more than that. Southwest’s system, it turns out, could not keep track of where its crew members and pilots were after so many flights were canceled. But with the other models, bad things happening in one place can ripple through the system and lead to a cascading set of cancellations.Īs soon as I heard how much worse Southwest was performing than their competitors, I knew there had to be an IT problem. If there is a plane flying between Richmond Virginia and Cincinnati Ohio – and something goes wrong – only the passengers on that route are affected. When it comes to resilience – recovering from something bad that happens – the simplicity of point-to-point beats hub-and-spoke or point-to point-to-point. The many potential different origin-destination pairings – along with a model that must consider how many can fly on a plane, distance, speed, union rules, federal regulations, airline policies, staff availability, and other constraints as well – makes for a very, very complex routing problem.īut the point of all those options is to maximize profitability, not resilience. If “flexibility” is defined in terms of routing optionality, this is true. Thus, airlines operating in this model could recover more quickly. Several outlets reported that hub-and-spoke models are more flexible. So many flights go in and out of these airports, that flights going through these cities are really operating in a hub-and-spoke model, they just don’t call it that. Southwest actually flies a point-to-point-to-point model. Other large carriers like United and American rely on a ‘hub-and-spoke’ model in which planes typically fly from smaller cities to a hub airport where passengers change planes.” “Point-to-point flights cut travel times by eliminating the intermediate stop - typically a big advantage for travelers who are not flying from major metro areas.
